Japanese Society for Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology
The history of the Japanese Society for Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology stretches back to forming a research group of dental radiology on July 20, 1951 and becoming a " a study group for dental radiology" on September 21, 1951. Together with the January 1, 1960, inception of the new Japanese Association for Dental Science with its core focus on autonomy and universality, we launched as their 8th subcommittee. Our first general assembly was held on October 16, 1960. Our academic journal "Shika Hoshasen" (Dental Radiology) has been published since 1960 and our English language journal "Oral Radiology" has been published since 1985. Centering on the two academic symposium formats of academic symposiums and clinical imaging symposiums, the Society for Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology currently engages in activities including regional meetings, education board supported pre-graduation and clinical training, continuing education courses, skill training, education board accredited courses, and step-up courses. As such, we offer a rich supply of resources and lectures and spread information on the necessity of diagnostic imaging, radiology treatment, and protection. Our medical specialist system is established by maintaining pre-accredited physicians, accredited physicians, medical specialists, and attending doctors. Oral and maxillofacial radiology medical specialists who belong to the NPO Japanese Society for Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology are allowed to advertise their certification title. We also draft instructional material, including dental cone beam CT guidance and dental implant diagnostic imaging guidelines, and share this information with society.
