Japanese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons
The Japanese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons was established in its previous incarnation in 1933. As an academic society designed to cultivate and promote oral and maxillofacial surgery in Japan, we currently aim for progress of research and dissemination of knowledge concerning oral surgery therefore strive to contribute to the expansion of academics in Japan and an increase in public health. Through a diverse array of actions, we contribute to the further development of oral medicine not only in Japan, but also all over the world.
Regarding our activities, we hold academic conferences and training symposiums on a nationwide and regional scale. In addition we publish the Japanese journal "Nihon Kokugeka Gakkai Zasshi" (Japanese Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery). We also include as an organizational journal the English journal "Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Medicine, and Pathology" published by the Asian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Furthermore, we also play a strong role in our responsibility to steadily advance oral cavity medical treatment in Japan as well as in the development of oral cavity medical treatment across all over the world through efforts such as the accreditation of medical specialists who possess both specialist knowledge and medical treatment ability regarding oral and maxillofacial surgery, the maintaining of a societal infrastructure foundation for oral surgery medical treatment by enhancing regional medical treatment focusing on dental and oral surgery departments in hospitals and private practitioners of dental and oral surgery, the conducting of studies and encouragement of research throughout the entire array of oral and maxillofacial disorders, the conducting of social education activities concerning oral surgery, the reinforcement of the medical treatment infrastructure via international cooperation based on linkages including medical treatment service activities overseas (particularly Asia and Nepal), linkages with related domestic and international academic societies, particularly such as the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS) and Asian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (Asian AOMS).
