The Japanese Society of Periodontology
The Japanese Society of Periodontology is an academic society that was established in 1957 with the goal of retaining as many natural teeth as possible by overcoming periodontal disease. As of March 31, 2018, we have 10,721 members. In addition to university clinical lecture members, we are also characterized by a high percentage of basic lecture and practicing dentist members, as well as dental hygienist members. This reflects the strong diversity of causes, clinical conditions, and treatment methods for individuals with periodontal disease. In 2004 we became an NPO corporation, and consistently strive harder to always be the kind of organization that contributes majorly to the public good.
Regarding our activities, we hold academic symposiums twice, in the spring and in the autumn seasons. We also issue a journal four times per year and hold clinical training sessions. Our members’ frequently present research results in related academic societies both in Japan and internationally. Also, centering on each related committee, we actively prepare guidelines and textbooks that form the basis for gum care examination, diagnosis, and treatment.
